Plant Acclimation

ACCLIMATION:

When you travel to a new place, you have to get used to your new surroundings. The temperature, humidity, food, and customs will all be different. Of course you get used to the new place by "acclimation." You will change somewhat to adjust to your new surroundings. So don't be surprised when you bring a ficus tree home and it drops leaves. It has to change to live in your house.

Acclimation is mostly noticed as leaf drop. It is no longer living in the ideal conditions where it was grown. Keep the dead foliage cleaned out of the pot, and be patient. When you bring a new plant home, they will use their water faster for approximately two weeks, and then they will slow down and be ready for a weekly watering schedule. You can expect the leaves that remain to be fully adjusted to the light in your home.
